"Because of the dominant power of the dogma of evolution in our culture, man is no longer seen as a creature made in God's image. He is seen, instead, as an accident coming out of the void, and returning to it again. This is the result of trying to make scientific thought autonomous. And it might seem that modern man (having accepted the basic assumptions of evolutionist thought) would also accept the inevitable conclusion - that man is nothing and cannot hope for more than momentary and meaningless existence. [But] this does not happen in most instances. To the contrary, modern man defies the conclusion to which this very framework that he has accepted inevitably leads. We believe that this is so because man is not really what he thinks he is (what he has been taught to believe in new-framework thinking). No, in actual fact man is what God says he is. He is God's image bearer, and he has eternity set in his heart (Gen. 1:26; Ecc. 3:11). It is this that explains the many attempts we see today in which "new framework" people try to somehow find meaning and purpose in life in spite of their despair." G.I. Williamson, "Understanding the Time," Presbyterian and Reformed Publishing Co., pg 75The more the modern church allows this evil to infect our ranks the more we become as hopeless as the lost. Understand the futility of what they believe and practice and fight the good fight of faith! They may wish to deny God, but the truth is that they are never able to fully purge Him from their thoughts and thus they lead a schizophrenic life that is never able to actually satisfy them. With such thought having firmly rooted itself in Christian circles we readily see the same thing. Ultimately we have to ask ourselves how far are we willing to allow this lie to permeate our ranks? Will we only decide to fight it when the entire church is mired in depression and views God as a luxury rather than a necessity? Or will we stop trying to find common ground and stand for truth now so that God may be truly exalted within our ranks; so that His people may live peaceably knowing that He is sovereign and we are working towards a pre-ordained end wherein we spend eternity with our precious Lord? May the Lord awaken us from our slumber that the latter would be true, Amen.
G.I. Williamson
I believe there is a common truth to man. Faith is essential in a happy fulfilled life and lack thereof leaves the heart without hope. We all see the dispair written across the faces we pass and the news we read each day. Setting a course to change the way others see the world has been a problem for an old man like me. This is where my life as happy as it is needs guidance.
ReplyDeleteI have thought about this issue of changing the world at length, though I think I still have some claim to youth. I have settled on the fact that we can share the truth and leave it in the hands of the Lord knowing that His sovereign purposes will be achieved and that even our horribly inadequate words can achieve great results when applied by the Spirit in His time. With that realization in place I no longer stress about seeing the immediate ramifications of conversations and efforts I have put forth in this world. To God be the glory always!
